Insights and truths about music in valedictory post on Sound Mind blog

Alas, John Terauds’ marvellous Sound Mind blog is being closed down, as the music critic for the Toronto Star is moved to the, erm, business section.

His last post, a re-publishing of the last article he wrote for the paper a few days ago, muses on the joys of being a music critic, of listening to and writing about music, and the power that music has. It also highlights the importance of children as a means of keeping culture alive as it is passsed down the generations, looking at music education and working with those with special needs and the under-privileged.

He also writes about buildings, concert halls and opera houses:

These are not just buildings. They are manifestations of a vibrant civic cultural life.

If you’ve not read Teraud”s blog before, read this final article and mourn the loss of another expressive, enthusiastic, insightful and engaging pen. We”ll miss him.
